It was built in the second century BC and underwent various al
terations, until 1500 when Antonio da Sangallo inserted its upper face in the Rocca Paolina. It had a characteristic false gallery, with four small fluted \b \cf1 \ATXht16 pillars\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 crowned by Ionic \b \cf1 \ATXht3 capitals\b0 \cf0 \ATXht0 , closed at the front by a low transenna from which three male figures and two equine protomes peer out. Two large pillars framed the arch and the overhanging structure.\par
